The New 2023 Toyota Sequoia
Redesigned for 2023, the Toyota Sequoia is stepping up to change the perception of the full-size SUV. The modern SUV is a workhorse, used by parents, sports teams, businesses, and so many other customers across the country. However, they have often suffered from boring design and poor fuel economy. The 2023 Toyota Sequoia has set out to solve this!
The biggest update for the 2023 Toyota Sequoia comes under the hood, with the brand new i-Force Max hybrid system. This is an energetic, responsive system made up of a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine combined with an electric motor, featuring a 1.87-kWh battery pack. This turns out 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque combined, all running through a 10-speed automatic transmission.
What this means for everyday driving is a towing capacity of up to 9500 pounds when properly equipped, plenty for towing along pleasure craft, small travel trailers, or cargo. Both rear- and four-wheel drive are available, to tackle rough roads and rough weather. Whichever you choose, the Sequoia gets the best fuel economy in the class outside of diesel-powered options – 21 MPG city and 24 MPG highway with rear-wheel drive, or 19 MPG city and 22 MPG highway with four-wheel drive!
With sheet metal echoing its pickup truck siblings, the Tundra and Tacoma, the 2023 Toyota Sequoia has certainly grown up to stand out in the smooth-sided full-size SUV crowd. From the large, hexagonal grille to the swelling wheel flares and athletic stance, you can clearly see the truck influence. This is echoed in the tall, squared-off greenhouse and large windows.
The spacious interior of the 2023 Toyota Sequoia provides seating for up to eight passengers, depending on the layout you choose. There is plenty of room in second-row seats for full-sized adults, with 39.2 inches of legroom and 38.4 inches of headroom. The third row even provides enough room for adults on short trips, with adjustability for anything from 28.1 to 33.7 inches of leg room. This allows you to adjust the space behind the third row to fit between 11.5 and 22.3 cubic feet of cargo, allowing true customization to fit the necessary combination of passengers and cargo. Easy-stow seating allows the Sequoia to carry up to 86.9 cubic feet max!
Standard on the base SR5 is an 8.0-inch touchscreen with eight speakers, but every other Sequoia trim features a massive 14.0-inch touchscreen, the largest in the segment! Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration is standard, and every model also has Bluetooth music and hands-free. Multiple USB media and charging ports are provided, while an available 14-speaker JBL sound system with subwoofer and amplifier is offered along with optional QI-compatible wireless phone charging.
Toyota has long been an industry leader in safety and driver assistance, and the 2023 Toyota Sequoia shows off the latest systems. The Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 suite is standard on every version of the new Sequoia and includes the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Automatic High Beams, and Road Sign Assist. Also standard on the new Sequoia is a Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Trailer Merge Warning, as well as Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking. The Sequoia eliminates blind spots with a standard Panoramic View Monitor featuring cameras along with a backup camera with a projected path.
Five different trims are available on the 2023 Toyota Sequoia, and all of them hit the right spots for specific segments of the driving population.
Even as the base model, the SR5 comes well-equipped. Standard heated power-dimming outside mirrors feature blind-spot warning indicators and are power-folding. 18-inch alloy wheels are standard, although 20-inch TRD Sport matte-black alloys are available. Fabric upholstery is featured, with heated 8-way power-adjustable driver and front passenger seats that also include 2-way power-adjustable lumbar support. The shift knob and multi-function steering wheel are leather trim, and the steering wheel can be heated. Three-zone automatic climate control with air filtration and rear climate control is standard to keep passengers happy, while a power tilt/slide moonroof with sliding sunshade opens up the cabin. The standard Smart Key system with Push Button Start offers remote keyless entry with panic and tailgate release functions, with illuminated entry. The 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system is standard, with the 14-inch touchscreen available.
Step up to the Limited trim and the 14-inch touchscreen is standard, with a 3-month SiriusXM trial subscription. A gray metallic grille and chrome-plated mirror caps with satin chrome-plated roof rails set the Limited trim apart, and it sits on 20-inch dark gray painted and machined-finished alloy wheels. Inside, the seating is wrapped in SofTex synthetic leather, and the front seats receive ventilation on top of the heating. The driver’s seat also gets a memory function. The center console bin and glove box are illuminated, and while the moonroof is standard, a panoramic version is optional. The steering wheel gets heating added for the cold months. In the cargo area, a 120V AC power outlet is provided for powering appliances out on the road and trail.
Built for rough-road and off-road travel, the four-wheel-drive-only TRD Pro trim takes the Limited trim and adds all sorts of gear for hitting the dirt. 18-inch TRD Pro matte-black forged-aluminum BBS wheels are standard to stand up to rocks and shocks, while an aluminum front skid plate protects the undercarriage. TRD Pro LED marker lights and a light bar are standard, integrated into the black heritage grille. TRD Pro badging is spread across the exterior, along with gloss black window molding and black-grained over-fenders. This is all capped off with a TRD Pro dual-tip exhaust. Inside, the synthetic leather-trimmed seats get TRD Pro badges with contrast stitching and technical camo pattern inserts. Other TRD décor across the interior includes all-weather floor mats, a red engine start button, a red-striped leather shift knob, steering wheel, aluminum sport pedals, and dashboard badging. Conveniences mirror the Limited trim.
Capping off the trims is the Capstone model, building even further on the luxury of the Platinum level. This model is easy to identify thanks to lots of chrome used across the exterior – a chrome-accented mesh grille with chrome surround, chrome-plated heated mirrors, chrome-plated roof rails, bright chrome badging, and massive 22-inch dark chrome and machined-finished alloy wheels. Inside, semi-aniline leather-trimmed seats get premium contrast stitching, and the floor mats get Capstone branding. Passengers are surrounded by upscale dark American walnut wood-grained interior trim. For the driver, the 10-inch color Head-Up Display is standard.
From the well-equipped entry-level SR5 to the high-luxury Capstone, the 2023 Toyota Sequoia has a unique offering for every driver. Make sure you can haul all the passengers and cargo you need and have the flexibility to change things up on the fly, with the redesigned Sequoia!
