Toyota Set to Make Automated Braking Standard by 2018

April 15th, 2016 by

Toyota is saying “out with the old and in with the new!” when it comes to braking – Automated braking will be standard in Toyota & Lexus vehicles.

Thanks to emerging technologies, the world of automobiles is constantly changing. Through it all, Toyota has always led the charge for that change. In fact, the brand is set to serve as a forerunner to technology that will change driving forever.

According to a Toyota press release, Toyota and Lexus are set to make automated braking standard by 2018. Automated braking helps drivers avoid accidents by activating the vehicle’s brakes when the vehicle approaches a car ahead of it too quickly. In the past, this system was reserved for expensive high-end models. Toyota’s goal is to bring the safety system to all makes and models.

“At Toyota, we are committed to creating better ways to move for everyone,” said Jim Lentz, CEO of Toyota Motor North America. “High-level driver assist technologies can do more than help protect people in the event of a crash; they can help prevent some crashes from ever happening in the first place. We are proud to help lead this industry in standardizing these systems and bring automated braking to our customers sooner rather than later.”
